We are currently seeking a Registered Social Worker to work alongside the student support services team to support students, family/whanau and work in relationship with local community support services. This is a permanent part-time position of 24 hours per week.
The key duties and areas of responsibility for this position will include:
establishing and maintaining the profile of the social work service within the school and the wider community
being an active participant in the daily operations of the student support services team
providing social work support for students within the context of their family, to promote positive social health, wellbeing and safety
supporting young people's educational development in collaboration with their family and college staff
identifying, developing and coordinating group programmes that would benefit students
contributing to the outcomes and future development of the social work service at the college.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced Social Worker with registration and a current practising certificate (or eligible for registration) and having a proven track record of successfully providing a wide range of support services, ideally in a school environment and as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will have proven ability to work in a bicultural / multicultural environment and demonstrate understanding of adolescent development and social issues affecting young people, and how to respond to a range of issues that young people may present with e.g. mental health, abuse, neglect and family violence. They will have experience in facilitating professional, restorative and family/whanau meetings and intervention programmes for young people.
Computer literacy, a working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
The candidate must be a New Zealand resident or have a valid work visa.
